[My Review]

I loved Our Stop, finding so much to relate to and enjoy about this sweet, charming romantic comedy. The relatable wit and humour of 29 year old (same age as me!) Nadia, who is scatty and always resolving to be more organised and become the ‘new her’, was really engaging to read about, as well as romantic Daniel, and those many ‘near misses’ between them that have a real sense of fate threaded through them. I also loved how funny and amusing the story was, particularly at the beginning.

I loved the premise of this story – Daniel spies a girl he really likes one lunchtime and then sees her on his morning commute, so he sends in an advert to the ‘missed connections’ section of the paper. Therein starts a series of connections between them – mainly correspondence through the paper – as well as lots of ‘could have beens’.
The characters are believable and likeable and I just loved losing myself in Nadia and Daniel’s story. Sure, there are bits that you have to suspend your disbelief for a little, but that’s to be expected I think, and this never overshadows the story. The fact that the book is based in London, and mostly around an area I work in too, means it’s even more relatable and enjoyable.

Laura Jane Williams sums up the humour of being a nearly-30 year old in London and I found myself laughing at various points, and this only added to the charm of the novel for me!

As someone who usually sticks to crime fiction/ thrillers, largely because I really hate cheesiness, I’m so pleased I found a book in the romantic comedy genre that I loved so much. I was completely absorbed in this story and found it struck just the right balance between being sweet and romantic without too cloying or cheesy. Laura Jane Williams has it just right – ‘feel good’ sums it up perfectly – and for this reason I wouldn’t hesitate to read anything else she releases, in fact I’ll be first in line 🙂
