The Girl in the Spider’s Web by David Lagercrantz #review

The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz

Title: The Girl in the Spider’s Web
Author: David Lagercrantz (translated from Swedish by George Goulding)
Series: Millennium #4 (originally written by Stieg Larsson)
Publisher: MacLehose
Press

Synopsis:

Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist have not been in touch for some time.

Then Blomkvist is contacted by renowned Swedish scientist Professor Balder. Warned that his life is in danger, but more concerned for his son’s well-being, Balder wants Millennium to publish his story – and it is a terrifying one.

More interesting to Blomkvist than Balder’s world-leading advances in Artificial Intelligence, is his connection with a certain female superhacker.

It seems that Salander, like Balder, is a target of ruthless cyber gangsters – and a violent criminal conspiracy that will very soon bring terror to the snowbound streets of Stockholm, to the Millennium team, and to Blomkvist and Salander themselves.

My review:

The Girl in the Spider’s Web is the first in the continuation of Stieg Larsson’s beloved Millennium series, by Swedish author David Lagercrantz. I have been excited about reading this for years, and having finally got around to reading it, I am certainly not disappointed! I feel that Lagercrantz has captured some of the essence of Larsson’s original books, and it’s great to welcome the return of much-loved characters Blomkvist, Salander and many more…

The plot is as complex and fast-paced as ever. Like with the original trilogy, much of the tech side of things went right over my head, but that’s to be expected, and it’s still very interesting – despite kno0wing nothing about maths, I found the information relating to prime numbers really intriguing!

We don’t see much of brilliant Lisbeth in the first part of the book; it focuses more on Blomkvist but as the novel continues she becomes more and more involved, and as always I was cheering her on! I don’t want to say much more, but if you enjoyed the original trilogy definitely give
The Girl in the Spider’s Web a go – and now there are books five and six in the series to enjoy, too! Even better!

Rating: 4/5
